From outdoor wireless access to public web kiosks, Bristol City centre boasts Streetnet, the UK’s largest free public wireless network.

Winning a public sector award for Best Enterprise Deployment in 2005, this three kilometer squared digital network brings many capabilities aside from simple surfing and can be used for [internet-based] CCTV cameras, bus shelters, traffic signals. Streetnet was created in partnership with Bristol City Council to support the ‘Bristol Legible City’ initiative; a directive to improve people’s understanding and experience of the city through the implementation of identity, information and transportation projects.
