Archimedia plans by architects White Design.
Awareness for Knowle West Media Centre’s Straw Bale Panel Initiative will be raised at the Knowle West environmental awareness event, taking place at the Health Park, Downton Road, Knowle West on Thursday 26 October from 2.15 pm– 5 pm. The first panel will be built by staff during the day and will be on show at KWMC Leinster House, Leinster Avenue The Knowle West.A team from the Media Centre will display a straw bale panel constructed that morning, as an example of how Archimedia, their new environmentally friendly home, will be constructed. The simple straw and timber constructions work in a similar way to the Ikea flat pack system, and are lime rendered after construction to make them fire and weatherproof. The building will be a flagship in environmental design and has involved young people and the community in the planning and the decision making process right from the start.
Local people will be invited to take part in building the new Media Centre and businesses and organisations will be able to sponsor a panel:
“The new building will enable us to extend and develop our work in the community… We believe that our work will contribute enormously to the cultural, economic and social development of the area. Plus we produce good work that the community are proud of,” Carolyn Hassan, Director, KWMC
