South West Screen Innovation Event

South West Screen – the agency for the development of film, TV and digital media in the South West – is hosting a special event to showcase successful projects resulting from an exciting and innovative funding scheme.

Projects on display at the event – taking place at Bristol’s Watershed on Thursday 2 November from 4pm – were all produced under South West Screen’s ‘Alliances’ initiative and range from short animations for internet/mobile download to a multi-media production of Macbeth at Bristol Old Vic to a promo of a unique new natural history show.

The scheme was launched a year ago, to support ‘alliances’ made up of three or more micro/small businesses and freelancers in the film, TV and digital media industries to develop ventures which would bring innovative business ideas and opportunities to success in the market place.

23 groups or ‘alliances’ were supported under the scheme with small investments (around £8,000 – £10,000 for each alliance) acting as a catalyst for further growth.

Already some of the projects have reaped huge rewards: One ‘alliance’ has secured a commission from the BBC worth £600,000 and another has scooped an award of £160,000 from Defra.
