Pixar: Collaboration, innovation and imagination with guest speaker Michael B. Johnson
Date: Thursday 19 July 2007 Registration: 5.30pm. Talk starts: 6pm
Venue: Watershed Media Centre, Bristol, BS1 5TX

From Toy Story to Cars, Ratatouille to Finding Nemo, Pixar Animation Studios has produced some of the most successful films of the last decade. Once the computer graphics branch of Lucasfilm, Pixar’s unique commitment to collaboration and innovation has not only resulted in seven Academy Awards but also the development of industry standard animation software Renderman.

Moving Pictures Group Lead Michael B Johnson gives an illustrated behind the scenes glimpse into some of the programmes and applications developed by his team to enable the production of these award winning features. Michael previously worked for Thinking Machines, NCSA, and IBM and received his MA in Visual Studies and PhD in Media Arts & Sciences from MIT’s Media Lab.

The launch is supported by South West Screen.

That's pretty confusing - I worked on setting up a network with the same name in 1999. I wonder how they're related.

Hi Bob, it is some of the same people as BCTN (University of Bristol and Watershed). Seeing as BCTN became BMEX, and the project holds to the same principles of encouraging innovation and collaboration, we decided not to invent another new name, but use something Bristol already had a track record with.
