e-vote or sms your Support for Sustrans Big Lottery Bid
November 23, 2007 Posted by Kevin in : Bristol , trackbackOnline voting is due to start on Monday 26th November for a Sustrans and Bristol City Council project to create a brand new cycling and walking link between Bristol and Nailsea.
“Connect2″ is one of four projects competing in the Big Lottery Fund’s: The People’s £50 million contest on ITV in December. Online voting opens on Monday 26 November at www.thepeoples50million.org.uk. Lorraine Kelly will be championing Sustrans’ Connect2 on an ITV1 show on Tuesday 4 December. Telephone voting will begin on Friday 7 December.
The “Festival Way” route will link central Bristol to Ashton Court Estate and then continue to Long Ashton, through Flax Bourton, Backwell and ending at Nailsea. A key part of the route is around the Cumberland Basin which is notoriously difficult for pedestrians and cyclists and it will see the reopening of Brunel’s lesser known Swivel Bridge, closed since the late 1960s.
If Sustrans wins the £50 million award Bristol City Council will receive £600,000 of it to develop the Festival Way, in partnership with North Somerset Council. Design work would start immediately and the project would be completed within five years.
