Today is “Safer Internet Day”

In connection with the 5th Safer Internet Day on 12 February 2008, Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, presents a selection of statistics concerning internet activities, security concern and virus attacks.

Concerns in the UK about internet safety seem relatively low. 53% of people in the UK use the internet for shopping compared to the highest number in the EU which is 55% in Denmark. The Brits however still lag far behind when it comes to internet banking though only 45% use the internet compared to a whopping 83% in Estonia.

Is this our trust in the UK’s banks and their ability to keep our data safe, following a number of information losses, or our worries about the security on the internet?
