If the council shows leadership in this area, there is a lot of potential to encourage the universities, health authority and large employers to do the same. Nationally, we are also talking with Digital UK about options for diverting unwanted TV sets away from landfill. There is a risk that the number of TV’s and peripherals such as video recorders and cassettes that are being thrown away will increase massively as digital switchover happens. We need to do what we can to avoid a TV mountain.
