South Bristol Digital Neighbourhoods have been working with Bristol City Council to provide local residents with ICT training, giving people confidence in using the internet and showing them how they can use the council’s consultation site www.askbristol.com. This website allows citizens to influence local decisions, and is part of an EU e-participation project called Citizenscape.
For this project, Ask Bristol is currently focusing on traffic noise pollution, the Ask Bristol site uses video, sound bites, images and discussion forums to encourage debate. Over on the bristolstreets website Google maps technology allows people to nominate their favourite quiet areas of the city and plot them on a map.
As part of Noise Action Week (18th – 22nd May) South Bristol Digital Neighbourhoods have arranged for this map to be hosted on the interactive information touchscreen at Broadwalk Shopping Centre, for those who don’t have Internet access at home.
All the information gathered from the various sources will feed in to how Bristol implements the city’s noise action plan.
