South Bristol prepares for National Get Online Day – 23rd October 2009

The Knowle West Media Centre is a UK Online centre and as part of the national Get Online Week KWMC is holding a Get Online Day on Friday the 23rd of October.

The all day event will feature:

  • Prizes for the oldest person participating and for the best story about how getting on line has helped
  • Open training workshops offering support for complete beginners and help for the more advanced
  • A special social networking workshop introducing older people to Facebook and setting up a local Facebook group to act as a centre and focus for on-going work with older people in the South Bristol community
  • Workshops with the local community management partnership and local residents on the newly developed knowlewest.co.uk community website
  • A Green Mapping workshop in conjunction with the EU Green Mapping project developing media (mobile phone video, images & sound) in the local community and uploading it to the online Knowle West Green Map.
  • Promotion of recently developed online businesses in the local community
  • Promotion of the Knowle West Web community wireless Internet project which offers free connection, free recycled computers and free training to local people
