Barbara Janke hands over the first recycled computer

On Tuesday Margaret Webber from Hartcliffe became the first person in the city to receive a recycled computer under Bristol’s Computer Reuse Scheme.

The scheme aims to provide hundreds of low cost refurbished and reconditioned computers to residents who couldn’t otherwise afford to buy one. The scheme has been very popular, with almost 350 people signing up within the first two months. Although this has been a huge response we are confident that we will get enough machines for everyone who has applied.

The poor weather around Christmas held the process up a little but now the first batch of fifty PC’s have been refurbished and are being distributed. Its expected that between 50 and 100 machines will be arriving per week from now on and the team at Byteback be working through applications in the order that they were received
