Where next for ecohomes?

June 13, 2007 Posted by Clare in : Bristol, Events, Environment , add a comment

How can we achieve ‘zero carbon’ homes? What will the homes and communities of the future look like? Join in this topical debate at the CREATE Centre on Wednesday 20 June, following presentations by local eco-architects Craig White (White Design), Richard Swann (Bruges Tozer), Lucy Pedler (The Green Register) and others. Chaired by former RIBA president George Ferguson, this Architecture Week event is organised to mark the tenth anniversary of the CREATE Ecohome. The debate takes place 6.30 - 8.30 pm, Weds 20 June, with exhibition private view from 5.30 (Ecohome also open). Admission is FREE but booking strongly advised; tickets must be collected by 6 pm.

There’s also the chance to see the new exhibition ‘Ecohome + 10: Designing the green homes of the future’. Find out what Kevin McCloud, Richard Rogers, Dick Strawbridge, Jonathan Porritt and others think about the future of eco-building, and view a variety of inspirational projects - from real-life homes to blue-sky thinking (including a development of ‘earthships’, pictured).

green-bodysuit.jpgGreenBristol is running two spectacular events in the next few days:

Ten movers, clad in striking green body-suits will perform a drifting dance. This curious happening will spark people’s interest in green mapping.

The first performances are at the Festival of Nature on Saturday 2nd June at 11 am and 2 pm. Last year the event attracted 25,000 people and it will be televised by the BBC.

The second performances are on World Environment Day - Tuesday June 5th. These will take place at 12.30 and 1.30 pm in the plaza at Temple Quay. In addition pupils from Hannah More Environmental School will be chalking positive messages for change.

Change Your World

Ever wonder how life would be if we travelled in ways that benefited our health and our environment? We’d have safer roads, cleaner air and a better quality of life.

Bristol based Sustrans is asking the UK to change the world, and it’s easier to do than you think:

Change Your World is asking you to swap just one car trip from 1-7 July and choose something that’s better for the planet instead.

And guess what? If we all give up one car journey that week we’ll reduce car traffic by 10%. See the Change Your World website for more details.
