Use Blackle for more energy efficient Googling

When your screen is white - an empty word page, or the Google page, your computer consumes 74 watts, and when its black it consumes only 59 watts. Mark Ontkush wrote an article about the energy saving that would be achieved if Google had a black screen, taking in account the huge number of page views, according to his calculations, 750 mega watts/hour per year would be saved. In a response to this article Google created a black version of its search engine, called Blackle, with the exact same functions as the white version, but with a lower energy consumption…. it is also helpful for people with visual impairments too

Bebo launches new drama with Bristol writer Hazel Grian
July 18, 2007 Posted by Clare in : Bristol, Innovation, Media , 1 comment so farKate Modern, a new interactive drama from the makers of lonelygirl15, launched on Bebo today and Bristol-based Hazel Grian, Producer of MeiGeist and owner of Licorice Film, is part of the writing team.
Set to be just as popular (the lonelygirl15 channel remains the most subscribed channel of all time on YouTube), Kate Modern will offer the 31 million members of social networking site Bebo characters they can send messages to, help solve puzzles, and generally participate in the story.
Creative Technology Network launches in Bristol

The Creative Technology Network launches tomorrow night at Watershed with a special event featuring Michael B. Johnson of Pixar.
Networking people and ideas across computing, communications and the creative industries, The Creative Technology Network (CTN) is a new Bristol-based venture, initiated by iShed and 3C Research. Once the computer graphics branch of Lucasfilm, Pixar’s unique commitment to collaboration and innovation has not only resulted in seven Academy Awards but also the development of industry standard animation software Renderman.
Moving Pictures Group Lead Michael B Johnson gives an illustrated behind the scenes glimpse into some of the programmes and applications developed by his team to enable the production of these award winning features. Michael previously worked for Thinking Machines, NCSA, and IBM and received his MA in Visual Studies and PhD in Media Arts & Sciences from MIT’s Media Lab.
The launch is supported by South West Screen.
