Mobile & Flexible Working is Coming to Bristol

Nomad is the local authority centre of excellence for mobile and flexible working. Connecting Bristol is delighted to join with Nomad to support a 1-day national showcase. Up to the minute case studies from a range of local authority speakers will illustrate the successes and challenges of using ICT and wireless working to accelerate service transformation.
Confirmed speakers include:
* Housing Repairs - Peter Gray, Peterborough City Council
* Benefits - Tina Gask-Clarke, formerly of Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council
* Regulatory Services - Thomas Dodd, ReGS Project, Barnsley & Sheffield Councils
* Social Care - Paul Overton, North Somerset Adult Care Services
The event will also feature a choice of interactive round table discussions:
* How to get from pilot phase to strategic roll out of mobile and the development of flexible working strategies - with case study presentations from North Hertfordshire District Council and facilitation from Anite.
* People, Home Working and Accommodation Impact - with case study presentation from Leeds City Council’s Benefits Team and facilitation from Capita.
* ‘Meeting the Wireless Challenge - delegates will hear from Bharat Jain, Nomad Wireless Project Manager; Stephen Hilton, Connecting Bristol; Ian Muller, Cityspace and Pete Ferne, Bristol Wireless. This workshop will generate insight and understanding of how wireless broadband can accelerate transformation and innovation in public and community services.
New ‘State of the Nation’ Survey Results will be shared with delegates during the End plenary session.

Connecting Bristol – Mapping streets and networks
February 17, 2007 Posted by Clare in : Digital Challenge, Wireless, Bristol, Connecting Bristol , add a commentOn 24 and 25 February 2007, the OpenStreetMap team of volunteers will be adding Bristol to the global mapping revolution. Contributors to the OpenStreetMap (OSM) project are meeting in Bristol with the aim of completely mapping the streets and other major features of the city.
Anyone wishing to take part in the mapping weekend are asked to meet at Watershed, 1 Canons Road, Bristol at 10.00 am on either or both days to collect GPS mapping units before going their separate ways to map the city for the rest of the day, with a brief get-together for lunch at convenient pubs. In addition, participants will also be contributing to gathering data for Connecting Bristol’s Wi-Map project, which is currently mapping open wireless networks around the city.

A visit to Princess Royal Gardens

I’m ringing the bell to gain access to Princess Royal Gardens in Redfield. I’m here to meet Heather Barham of Bristol City Council and Ronnie Corbett, scheme manager for PRG. Heather’s come to learn about Bristol Wireless‘ work with sheltered housing schemes and I asked Ronnie to help hold my hand.
Once settled in Ronnie’s office with a brew, we’re down to business. (more…)
Volunteers needed for fashion experiment

Watershed is looking for volunteers to spend an hour trying out the futuristic jackets and the new forms of communication they enable. . (more…)
